Overview

The Product Design BA (Hons) degree at The University for the Creative Arts Canterbury develops your creative practice through hands-on making, critical thinking and design insight.

Product Design is about more than the object itself. It's about understanding how the object fits into the bigger picture when considering environment, technology, sustainability, cost, and value. We'll encourage you to think about the lifecycle and impact of your work from day one of your Product Design degree. The course will also give you the opportunity to explore how products shape - and are shaped - by the people who use them.

You'll learn how to identify needs and gaps in the market through research and testing. Then, you'll explore how to respond with thoughtful, innovative solutions. You’ll also collaborate with students from other design degrees. This will help you understand how products live within interior and architectural contexts.

Our academic and technical staff are experienced designers and makers and are on-hand to support you throughout your time at university. You'll have access to extensive workshop facilities for wood, metal, plastics and digital fabrication, ensuring you can explore both traditional and modern design processes.
