Overview
At University of York Languages (French) and History (with a year abroad) programme you'll Explore the past, and view the world through the lens of another language. Spend a year abroad and make the most of our excellent partnerships.
Quick Facts:
- Take an interdisciplinary view. Combining history and a language allows you to explore the forces that have shaped societies and cultures in the past. You'll graduate with an exciting global perspective.
- Explore an extensive range of history modules. From the Middle Ages to the present day, our world-leading historians offer a wide range of modules spanning geographic, cultural and thematic boundaries. You'll hone your skills in critical reading, constructing arguments, and how to effectively use evidence.
- Develop your language proficiency. You'll be taught in the language you’re learning, with a focus on society, politics and culture. Guided by our supportive staff, many of whom are native speakers, you’ll rapidly develop your fluency and knowledge. If you choose French as a beginner (ab initio), you’ll be amazed how you progress.
- Enhance your experience with a year abroad. You’ll spend at least one semester studying history at a partner university and can also choose a French-speaking international work placement. Your plans will be supported by our year abroad coordinators. If you prefer not to have a year abroad, you’ll graduate after three years.
