Key facts
The Flexible Learning Strand (FLS)/Distance is designed for those already working or volunteering in ambulance services at a minimum of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level. The FLS provides the opportunity to study part-time with up to six years to complete the degree. The programme is delivered using a blended education model that integrates online learning, block courses on campus, theory classes, simulation, and self-directed learning.
The Health Science (Paramedic) (For Working or Volunteering Paramedics) from Wellington Institute of Technology is run in conjunction with Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA). Graduates will have the knowledge and skills for practice as contemporary ambulance paramedics.
Students applying for FLS need to go through a credit recognition process to determine their point of entry into the programme.
Accreditation
The Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority accredited by the Council of Ambulance Authorities.
