The practical way you learn

During your studies, you carry out practical assignments from real companies, working in groups and coached by lecturers and professionals with relevant professional experience. It’s a way of learning, an educational concept, they call it  DesignBased Education. You learn to draw on feedback to adapt your ideas and become more flexible, while also developing your teamwork and leadership skills.

For instance, you could do one of the programmes offered by RUNEU or, depending on your degree, do your internship abroad or follow a minor subject in a different country through our Grand Tour or Exchange programmes. This bachelor programme is accredited by the NVAO in the Netherlands (The Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders).

Programme Structure

Year 1 – Work on your basic programming skills, learn the principles of setting up and maintaining a network, and take the first steps towards programming a software application. 

Year 2 – Learn to program efficiently and effectively, master algorithms and data structures, and improve your programming skills in various languages. You will be working on assignments from external clients.

Year 3 – Do a five-month internship, in the Netherlands or abroad. Follow-up your internship with modules such as Design Patterns, IT architecture, IT change management and Threading in C#.

Year 4 - Spend the first half year specialising with a minor subject and then finish your studies with a graduation project in a professional environment.

General requirements

Academic

To be admitted to a 4-year bachelor programme, you will need to meet the admission requirements as outlined in Dutch Higher Education law. You need a diploma that is at least equivalent to an NLQF 4/EQF 4 level (Dutch/European Qualifications Framework) and comparable to the required Dutch diploma.

Language

All non-EU/EEA applicants are required to submit an English proficiency test with their application to show that their English language skills are at a high enough level to succeed in their studies.

NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences accepts the following official language tests:

  • Academic IELTS 6.0 (with an advised minimum of 5.0 for each skill)
  • TOEFL iBT (with a minimum score of 80)
  • Cambridge ESOL score First FCE-B (scale 173-175) or First FCE-Grade C (scale 169-172)
  •  TOEIC 865 (Listening and Reading) and 335 (Speaking and Writing)
  •  LanguageCert academic (minimum score of 65)
  • Pearson PTE Academic (minimum score of 61)
