Overview
Throughout the Sport, Coaching and Physical Education (Hons) course from University of Gloucestershire you’ll develop skills across a range of sports and physical activities, gaining a variety of experience in schools, coaching settings and within community sports development contexts. Many graduates progress into careers such as a PE teaching, sports coaching and working within local authorities or county sports partnerships.
The course will explore innovative approaches to coaching/teaching and encourage you to critically reflect on your own delivery and the impact different approaches have on learners. In addition, you’ll develop an understanding of contemporary issues in physical education and coaching including motivations to participate in sport and physical activity as well as the barriers to participation for different abilities and backgrounds.
Career opportunities:
By developing an understanding of teaching, learning styles and coaching techniques across a range of sports, you’ll graduate with the expertise that schools and community sports settings are looking for in sports educators and coaches. Many of the graduates progress into careers as PE teachers.
Graduates from this course can also go on to work as primary school teachers and secondary PE teachers (via PGCE), sports and PE activators, sports specialist primary teachers, school sports coaches, and community sports coaches.

- 104 – 112 UCAS tariff points, BCC – BBC at A levels, MMM – DMM at BTEC, or a Merit in your T-Level.
- English Language or Literature and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.
- In order to study this course, offer holders will need to complete a satisfactory DBS and Health Clearance check.
- The university welcomes applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.
