Overview
The Nursing - Learning Disabilities (Hons) course from University of Gloucestershire students applying for this course may be eligible for the NHS Learning Support Fund, which provides a non-repayable training grant of £5,000 per academic year.
Designed in collaboration with partners in the NHS, the private and voluntary sector, as well as carers and service users, the course provides you with the skills, experience and confidence necessary for a career in Learning Disabilities Nursing. There will also be a strong emphasis on leadership and shaping a culture of care.
In the first year you’ll learn skills fundamental to providing good quality care while learning to lead and manage yourself. In your second year you’ll consider leading and managing care. The third year will focus on leading and managing service to develop your abilities to lead a team and drive service innovation.
You’ll work in supportive teams with practice and academic experts, mentors and personal tutors. Your course is 50% theory and 50% practice and commences with a six-week introductory block with regular placements in professional healthcare settings, allowing you to work with service users, their carers and care providers.

General requirements
- 112 UCAS tariff points, BBC at A levels with one subject preferably in a science. DMM at BTEC to include 6 units in a Science or Health Science subject. 2:2 or above in a previous degree, or a Merit in T-Level in a science or health-related subject.
- You must have a minimum of five subjects at GCSE grade 4/C or above, to include English and Mathematics, or equivalent.
- In order to study this course, offer holders will need to complete a satisfactory DBS and Health Clearance check.
- We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.
- Selection for this course is by interview.
