Overview
Through the Games Art (Hons) programme from University of Gloucestershire you’ll use the same tools the pros do – like ZBrush, 3D Studio Max, Substance Painter, Unity, Unreal, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop – while learning how to work in a game dev team, prototype quickly, and make your designs better through actual player feedback.
You won’t just be stuck in a classroom. You’ll create in high-end studios packed with equipment used in the industry – graphics tablets, VR headsets, motion capture suits, PlayStation and Nintendo dev kits, photogrammetry scanners, and even mixed-reality tools like the HoloLens.
Build games that look amazing and play even better, from indie-style mobile projects to full-on console experiences.
Career opportunities:
Graduates from this course have landed awesome jobs as 3D artists, concept artists, artworkers, and designers.
In your second year, you’ll take the Professional Awareness module, where you’ll build a stronger CV, sharpen your portfolio, and get confident with interviews. You’ll even get a taste of working as a freelance artist. There’s also the chance to take a placement year – either with a real games company or on cool in-house projects with the Games Research Team.
Your final year is all about levelling up your skills, focusing on advanced game art techniques, and creating a portfolio that shows off what you can really do.
Past students have scored placements at top industry names like Masters 247 and Brainspark Games.
We stay in touch with the amazing alumni and often invite them back to give talks, share advice, and show what’s possible with a career in game art. You could meet people like:
- Millie Fisher, Junior 3D Artist at Dyson
- Dan Cliff, Associate Technical Artist at Sumo Digital
- Kai Ismay, Technical Designer at Flix Interactive
They started where you are – and now they’re making a name for themselves in the games industry. You could be next.
