Overview

The graduate of British and American Studies from Pavol Jozef Safárik University in Kosice knows the methods of linguistic analysis of the text which are the basis for possible future scholarly profiling of the graduate with the emphasis on the contrastive aspect (English in contrast to Slovak), masters the procedures of literary analysis and interpretation of text and has basic knowledge of translation theory and terminology. She/he has knowledge of British and American realities that allow them to understand the national and global aspects of contemporary British and American cultural space. The graduate acquires a narrower specialisation by completing compulsory elective courses based on their choice with regard to the topic of the degree thesis.

Learning Goals

The graduate masters the practical language skills of the language studied at the B2/C1 level according to the scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, they can identify relevant professional literature in the field of scholarly study of English, Anglophone literatures and cultures and can actively use information and communication technologies in educational and research activities .

They can use sophisticated research methods and are able to analyse and critically interpret linguistic, literary, and cultural studies. The graduate is able to implement the acquired knowledge and skills into the process of addressing theoretical and practical issues in the field of their specialisation and can present the results of their research through clearly formulated and convincing arguments. The graduate has acquired practical translation skills with a focus on the translation of professional text, has a high level of written expression and strong communication skills.
