Overview
The comprehensive Science programme at The University of Hong Kong lays the foundation for knowledge in science with a choice of 14 Science Majors, 7 Intensive Majors, and options to add non-science courses. After two years, you will be required to choose your Major with the flexibility to change. You may also opt to take a 2nd Major or Minor or 2nd Minors in Science and non-science disciplines.
HKU’s Young Scientists Scheme opens the door for early entry into research experiences for outstanding students. Successful applicants benefit from mentorship, research fellowships, exclusive experiential learning placements, and global exchange opportunities at respected universities like Cambridge, Stanford, and Yale.
Your degree also lays the groundwork to pursue a postgraduate degree at HKU or further afield. Alternatively, take advantage of our articulation pathway to the University of Melbourne (UoMelb) to earn a BSc degree from HKU and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from UoMelb over seven years of study.
Professional Recognition
Five majors in the programme are accredited by professional bodies, enabling graduates to specialise locally and internationally in some cases. The Major in Chemistry is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). Majors in Biological Sciences, Ecology and Biodiversity, and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology are accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB). The Major in Geology is accredited by The Geological Society of London (GSL).
