About the program

The Drilling Engineering program from Satbayev University includes a combination of natural, mathematical and engineering courses and teaches novice-drilling engineers the basics of designing, drilling and operating well systems.Students study the technique and technology of drilling wells, the physics of destruction process related to rocks during the drilling, methods of geophysical studies of wells, types of drilling and grouting solutions, methods on opening and development of wells, geological navigation of wells during inclined drilling, methods of drilling deep-sea wells, the basics of drilling supervision, ways to prevent accidents and complications during drilling of oil-gas, exploration and geo-technological wells.Students have many opportunities to develop skills and knowledge in drilling engineering outside of the classroom, including the student organizations and internships in industry.

Students take part in International Society of Petroleum Engineers (Society of Petroleum Engineers), an international non-profit organization of oil industry technicians. The company’s main goal is accumulation and dissemination of knowledge in the field of oil exploration and production, development of related technologies. The company's offices are located in Moscow, Dallas, Houston, London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur. SPE members are more than 100 thousand people, including more than 28 thousand students.

Careers

Graduates obtain “Bachelor of Engineering and Technology” qualification in two areas: 1) Drilling wells for oil and gas, 2) Drilling wells for solid minerals and water. In the first direction of training, they can work in oil-gas industry in exploration and operation of oil and gas fields, in the second direction - in exploration industry, as well as in exploration and operation of deposits of solid minerals and water as specialists in the field of technology for construction of oil and gas wells, their repair, conservation, liquidation and drilling.
