Overview
This programme offers a unique professional focus, designed to cultivate the creative, technical, and analytical skills necessary for success in the photography, video, and media sectors. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge of both traditional and contemporary photography techniques, alongside video production and media technologies. The curriculum incorporates the latest advancements in lens-based software and hardware, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the evolving demands of the industry.
Throughout the course, students will engage with a variety of equipment and technologies, enhancing their practical skills. A significant component of the programme is a mandatory work placement during the third year, which lasts a minimum of 13 weeks. This invaluable experience allows students to immerse themselves in the professional environment of photography and media, providing them with insights into industry practices and standards. They will work alongside a mentor from the workplace and an academic staff member from MTU, ensuring a supportive learning experience.
In the final year, students will undertake a capstone module that encourages the exploration of emerging themes and issues in their practice. This project requires students to take on professional responsibilities, adapt their plans as needed, and present their work at various stages through visual and oral presentations. This hands-on approach not only enhances their creative abilities but also prepares them for the realities of working in the industry.
