Some of the topics you’ll explore on the Social Work (Hons) course at Manchester Metropolitan University will include how to communicate with people with a range of needs, the importance of working with colleagues from other disciplines and the importance of supervision and reflective practice. You’ll consider theories including sociological and psychological perspectives, and factors that might impact on the life course from pre-birth through to death.

From working with homeless teenagers to women experiencing domestic abuse to adults with learning disabilities, your career as a social worker could develop in a number of different areas.

You might work in a social work team within a local authority or for an organisation such as the NHS or Cafcass. Or perhaps you’ll work for a private company, such as in a residential care home, or for a charity.
