Overview
A career in teaching is highly rewarding and by working in primary education you will play an important role in helping children learn and develop while getting a huge amount of satisfaction yourself.
The university is renowned for delivering teacher education and we will share our experience and expertise with you to help set you up for your career and meet your full potential.
All about the course
During the Primary Education course from Canterbury Christ Church University, you'll study academic disciplines specific to teaching and learning and you'll develop professionally by undertaking placements in schools and education settings. This combination will support you as you become a creative and flexible teacher practitioner who can teach in innovative ways that will motivate and inspire children.
As you begin your transition into teaching and learning in higher education, you'll be supported to develop essential study skills and over time you'll develop your own philosophy of teaching.
You'll gain knowledge and skills related to children's learning and you'll develop a strong knowledge of the primary curriculum. As your understanding of children’s development deepens, you'll be able to apply your knowledge to the classroom and make a positive impact as you support children in their learning.
You'll participate in placements during each year of the course. This experience will enable you to gain confidence and build your skills in observation and collaboration as you work towards solo class teaching. You'll be encouraged to reflect on your own practice and develop a range of appropriate teaching styles and strategies. As well as placements, there are also opportunities to participate in school-based tasks and projects.
