Sociology helps us understand why and how people think, act and behave. It examines the dynamics and relationships within societies, such as family, friendships and communities, or power and governance.

Careers

On successful completion of your Foundation Year, you can progress to Year 1 of the BA (Hons) Sociology. As you progress through your degree, you'll further develop some of the skills most sought after by employers – solid research, analytical, critical thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

This, together with your knowledge and understanding of people, social institutions and processes, gives you a toolset that can be applied in almost any career. There are also the obvious career routes into the public sector, within local or central government, politics, the civil service, welfare or criminal justice system.
