Overview
Veterinary Nursing (Hons) from Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) blends academic study and clinical placement with an approved veterinary practice and allows registration as a qualified Veterinary Nurse once you've successfully completed it.
You'll learn the competencies you need to undertake practical patient care and theatre duties, and regular clinical skills labs will prepare you for practical examinations.
Once you've successfully completed the general or Honours degree, including the required clinical placement within practice, you'll be able to register as a Veterinary Nurse and begin to practice. Registration is awarded at the graduation ceremony by an RCVS representative.
Careers
You'll gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing by studying a wide range of subjects, from anatomy and physiology to animal behaviour and welfare, infection control and clinical practice to anesthesia and diagnostic techniques.
You'll work with a range of animals, including large animals, exotics and wildlife, and most of your third year will be spent putting your learning to use on placement with an approved veterinary practice.
