Overview
Social Anthropology at The University of the West Indies is structured to allow interdisciplinary learning: students are encouraged to take classes from other Faculties as part of their Major.
Even if you do not pursue anthropology as a career, it will add to your skill set and is well suited to a number of fields. Education, medicine, law, social work, international relations, psychology and forensics are other fields in which anthropological skills and approaches are useful. A Minor is also available in Social Anthropology.
Students at Social Anthropology at The University of the West Indies will:
- appreciate diversity, understand their and other cultures, and use the philosophy and research techniques of anthropology to help others.
- learn how in-depth knowledge of a people can be used to solve problems of concern to them and to wider society, and to do so without harming them or their way of life.
- have research skills and abilities that appeal to a variety of potential employers, from the government sector to the (international) development sector to the corporate world.

- Five CSEC subjects (General Proficiency Grades I-III) or GCE O'Level/BGCSE subjects (Grades A-C) which must include English Language and Mathematics
- Two double Units CAPE subjects or 2 GCE A-Level subjects.
