Overview

The objectives of this programme are to prepare students to be competent engineers that will be able to apply Engineering Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences and Ethics to solve animate and inanimate problems in Biochemical Engineering with emphasis in Biotechnology in areas such as Bioprocess Engineering (bioreactor engineering, optimization, control and management of biosystems, biopharmaceutical products, production and processing of food products, animal feed, nutrition supplements), Environmental Biotechnology (waste management and utilization, bioremediation, design operation, and management of water supply, water pollution, wastewater-municipal and industrial), Biomolecular Engineering (enzyme production and product optimization, production and optimization of biomolecular materials for industrial applications e.g. food products, biopharmaceuticals, water treatment and water pollution control, development of biosensors for process monitoring /testing and online bioprocess applications) and Nanotechnology (carbon nanomaterials and applications, membrane technology and colloidal and interfacial science engineering).

Career Prospects:

Graduates from Chemical Engineering with Honours at International Islamic University of Malaysia have job opportunities in Manufacturing: construction, operation, and maintenance of production plants for biopharmaceuticals, biologics, food and animal feed production, agrochemicals e.g. biocides, bio-fertilizers, fine chemicals, bio-sensors and bioinstrumentation etc. Utility and Service Industries such as water and wastewater treatment companies, environmental management, petroleum processing etc., consulting Planning, design construction and maintenance of engineering systems in biochemical, bioprocess and bioenvironmental projects, and Government agencies.

General requirements

At least three (3) principal passes in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (A) Level Examination (UK Educational System) obtained in one sitting OR
International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of six (6) subjects obtained in one sitting OR
Any other qualifications that are recognized by the Senate of the University as equivalent to the above.

Applicants must also have the following subjects taken at the above mentioned examinations (A level, IB or any other equivalent certificates):

Mathematics (for applicants to all undergraduate programmes offered except for Bachelor of Arabic).
Two other subjects in the intended field of study.
