Overview
The programme educational objectives for the Civil Engineering BTech programme at National Institute of Technology Silchar are:
- To impart to admitted students Civil Engineering education and knowledge in contemporary science and technologies so that they can meet practical challenges of Civil Engineering problems.
- To train and equip the admitted students with knowledge of latest design codes and design philosophy.
- To inculcate in admitted students the sense of ethics, morality, professionalism, creativity, leadership, independent thinking and self confidence.
- To open the door of research world in students so that they feel an urge for higher studies and innovation.
The expected Programme outcomes (POs) of the B.Tech. in Civil Engineering are as follows:
- Graduates will be able to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering in the solution of Civil Engineering problems.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to identify, formulate, analyze and solve Civil Engineering problems.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design engineering structures, conduct experiments, analyze and interpret the resulting data.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design a system, component or algorithms to meet desired needs within the context of civil engineering and considering realistic constraints.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to visualize and work on laboratory and multidisciplinary task.
- Graduate will demonstrate skills to use modern engineering tools, software and equipment to analyze and solve problems.
- Graduates will have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Graduates will be able to communicate effectively.
- Graduate will show the understanding of impact of engineering solutions on the society, environment and awareness of contemporary issues.

- Admissions to the first semester of all Undergraduate courses are made on the basis of seats allocated by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) from the list of candidates selected by all India JEE (Main). Besides, a specified number of foreign nationals/NRIs selected under the policy laid down by Govt. of India, are admitted directly to the 1st year of the courses.
