At the Philosophy and Politics (joint honours) programme at the Oxford Brookes University you will be able to choose from a selection of modules from both of these courses to create a programme that is tailor made for you.

The Philosophy (Hons) programme at the Oxford Brookes University teaches philosophy from a western, analytical perspective. But we also offer modules in eastern philosophy and issues around continental philosophy.

From day 1 we will encourage you to become a philosopher in your own right. You will engage with the thoughts of great thinkers, from Plato to Kant. And examine current developments in areas such as:

the philosophy of mind and language

culture, gender and sexuality.

Career prospects:

Studying philosophy will help you to develop reasoning and communication skills that are highly prized by employers. Philosophy graduates work in a wide range of sectors including journalism and the media, the civil and diplomatic services, law, marketing, computing, management consultancy and counselling.

A Politics degree from Oxford Brookes means excellent employment potential. Our graduates have made successful careers in a variety of professions, including social work, management, teaching, lecturing, publishing, journalism, advertising, local government, law and the trade unions. Career destinations also include an MP and roles within political parties or as parliamentary researchers.

Acceptable passes in five subjects (exceptionally four subjects) at GCSE or GCE including:
- one 12-unit vocational A-level, or
- two A-levels or two 6-unit vocational A-levels, or
- one A-level or 6-unit vocational A-level plus two AS-levels, or
- two 3-unit vocational A-levels *(* where these are included they need to be in subjects other than those held at A-level).
A National Certificate or Diploma at a good standard.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 24 points) or the European Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 60%).
Five subjects in SCE with two at Higher level or one at Advanced Higher level.
Three subjects in Scottish Highers or two at Advanced Higher level.
Any other qualifications considered by the Academic Board to be of equivalent standard.
