Overview

You will complete a science major through the Faculty of Science plus core courses in professional education through the Faculty of Education. A choice of seven science majors includes biochemistry, biological sciences, chemistry, ecology and biodiversity, food and nutritional science, molecular biology and biotechnology, and physics.

Get exposure to professional practices, including pedagogical, psychological, and sociological courses, plus teaching in local mainstream schools across five years of study.

Professional Recognition

Graduates of the Education and Science programme from The University of Hong Kong will earn a BSc and a BEd in Science education. The programme is equivalent to a BSc plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education – a professional teaching qualification recognised locally. 

Career Prospects

Graduates have gone on to teach science or science-related subjects in mainstream Hong Kong secondary schools. Others have ventured into scientific research in tertiary institutions or government sectors. You can also consider a career in government quality assurance or curriculum development, civil service and administration, or publishing and textbook writing.
