Overview
The Screenwriting programme at York University provides a unique environment for students to master the art of storytelling for the screen. As Canada’s only undergraduate degree dedicated specifically to this craft, it offers an unparalleled opportunity to develop a professional voice within the media industry.
Why Screenwriting at York University?
Students benefit from being part of the prestigious School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD). The programme is distinguished by its immersive studio classes and extensive mentorship from internationally recognised faculty members. A key strength is the collaborative atmosphere where writers work alongside film production and media arts students to see their scripts realised.
Facilities at the Keele Campus support a hands-on approach to learning, allowing students to dive deep into the mechanics of plot, character, and dialogue. The curriculum is designed to build a diverse portfolio, including short screenplays, feature-length scripts, and television pilots, ensuring graduates are industry-ready.
