The Global China Studies program from NYU Shanghai offers two options. Students may opt to take the track that requires an extensive study of China in a global setting through the completion of an interdisciplinary curriculum without the need for additional Chinese language courses.

Overview

China has again become a major force in the world, while increasingly the world is drawn to China. Beyond the scope of conventional area studies, the innovative interdisciplinary major in Global China Studies allows students to cultivate up-to-date knowledge and critical skills about China

The Global China Studies program from NYU Shanghai aims at deepening their understanding of China's interactions with the wider world as well as comprehend the trends within China, at individual, societal, state, and global levels, and in the context of socio-economic, religious, cultural, and political transformations.

General requirements

  • Contact information for the counselor or other school representative who will complete your Common Application School Report and submit your official high school transcript.
  • Contact information for one teacher (or two, maximum) who will complete the Teacher Evaluation form.
  • Nonrefundable $80.00 application fee. Students who are unable to pay the application fee can request a fee waiver.
  • Results from standardized tests and/or national exams 
  • Results from English language testing are required for students whose native language is not English 
  • The Common Application School Report and official high school transcript
  • One teacher evaluation (students may submit an optional second teacher evaluation, but please submit no more than two)
  • The Common Application Mid-Year Report
