Having so many universities, Shanghai is a well-known provider of undergraduate degree, Master’s degree and PhD degree programmes taught in English or in Chinese. If you aim for an accredited programme which leads to a Bachelor’s degree, you will find courses in literature, law, philosophy, history, information security, engineering, medicine and arts. Basically, all the fields of study you may wish for are at your disposal and they usually last for four years.

When you wish to apply to a graduate school abroad, you will find programmes that last for three years. You also have the chance to enrol in a PhD in psychology, education, computer science, finance or other field of your interest.

Summer schools offer university short courses of local cultural experience that last for two weeks and are aimed at international students. These cover history, society, politics, business and global issues of this century.

Shanghai has an active and agitated city life, that helps you experience the old and the new, the traditional and the modern, in one place. As spectacular as it is, Shanghai earned is fame as the place where you can live “the American Dream à la Chinoise”, as a reporter described it.

Having over 150 parks, Shanghai has a culture of outdoor entertainment, that is also generous in city landscapes. Jessfield Park, Shanghai Botanical Garden and Xujiahui are some of the parks that often impress visitors. The city also has a low air pollution level in comparison to other locations in China and walking around and admiring the 20-century, Soviet, Stalinist and other styles of architecture, along with modern and eccentric structures, is most of the time a pleasure.

Shanghai is known for its influence upon the cyberpunk culture, visible on buildings such as the Oriental Pearl Tower or the Yanán Elevated Road. Some of the most famous local museums are Shanghai Museum, the China Art Museum, the Power Station of Art or the National History Museum.

Nightlife of Shanghai is visible in clubs, concert halls, thematic bars and other locals.

International atmosphere in Shanghai

Shanghai is a multicultural and multilingual city, with a large amount of registered foreigners from Japanese, S.U.A. or Korea. Being a popular tourist destination and international trade centre, the city has a constant flow of visitors.

Locals are accustomed with the flow of international visitors and students and are eager to talk to them about Asian traditions and to show them a bit of the local customs, while learning more about Western ideas.
