Overview

The Practical Nursing diploma programme from Humber Polytechnic develops your knowledge of nursing theory, health assessment, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, clinical decision-making, communication and professional practice. You will learn how to provide safe, evidence-informed and ethical care while building the critical thinking and clinical judgment skills needed to support patients with diverse health needs.

Learning is active, practical and designed to build confidence before entering professional practice. Through simulation-based learning, laboratory experiences, case studies and clinical preparation activities, you will apply nursing concepts in realistic healthcare scenarios while strengthening both technical and interpersonal skills.

Humber offers a distinctive nursing education experience as the only English-speaking college in Ontario with access to an on-campus cadaver lab for nursing students. Combined with advanced bioscience and anatomy laboratories, students gain a deeper understanding of human anatomy and how it connects to patient assessment, clinical reasoning and nursing practice.

Clinical learning is integrated throughout the program. Students gain valuable experience through placements with healthcare organizations across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, applying classroom learning in real-world environments while developing professional competence and confidence.
