Architectural Technology Humber Polytechnic

Overview

By taking the Architectural Technology programme from Humber Polytechnic you will develop expertise in architectural design, building science, construction systems, technical documentation, and Building Information Modelling (BIM). You will strengthen your analytical and critical thinking skills while learning to create accurate technical drawings, coordinate complex building projects, and apply Ontario Building Code, specifications, and construction practices using industry-standard software.

Applied learning is integrated throughout the program through design studios, technical projects, collaborative assignments, and digital modelling exercises that reflect professional architectural practice. Working with software including Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, and SketchUp, you will develop practical experience creating building designs, construction documentation, and presentation materials while solving authentic design and construction challenges. You can also choose to participate in an optional co-operative education placement, providing the opportunity to gain paid industry experience, apply your classroom learning in a professional setting, expand your professional network, and graduate with valuable workplace experience that helps you stand out to employers.

Sustainability is embedded throughout the curriculum. You will explore building performance, environmental systems, passive house principles, net-zero design strategies, and emerging construction methods that support energy-efficient, resilient, and environmentally responsible buildings. Learning alongside award-winning faculty and licensed architects provides valuable industry perspectives while connecting classroom learning with current professional practice.
