Overview
The European Union Relations programme from Near East University is dynamic in the sense that it is constantly updated to provide our students with the changing and up-to-date European Union studies. The curriculum of each programme has been designed to carefully balance theoretical and practical courses as well as compulsory and elective courses.
Key facts
- The four-year curriculum is divided into two sections. The first two years of the programme consist of compulsory courses covering a substantial variety of studies and giving the students their primary theoretical foundation.
- These courses include introductory micro and macroeconomics courses, business and management courses, English language courses, introduction to European integration and other European studies courses, political sciences courses, international relations courses and also history courses.
- The remaining two years includes a smaller number of compulsory courses and a larger number of elective courses allowing the students to choose from a range of elective courses providing them with the opportunity to pursue their areas of interest.
- The elective courses include many different areas of research such as enlargement of EU and harmonization, international politics and security, multiculturalism, the Cyprus issue, Balkan politics, international organizations among many others.
Careers and opportunities
- The students who graduate from the Department of European Union Relations have a wide range of occupational options as their educational background will cover different research areas including European studies, economics, politics and international relations.
- They will have the competency to work for the public and private sectors as well as the civil society. Their career prospects include working for any national or international European institution or office, becoming experts, advisors or project coordinators in EU-funded projects, working for the government bodies and EU-related offices.
- As for the private sector, they can work for consulting firms, multinational corporations (MNCs), and financial institutions as their analytical skills will also be strong. The civil society also offers an exciting area of occupation for those who are more into developmental research and believe in the strengthening of the civil society.
- Moreover, they may continue their studies with a master’s and a PhD degree to become academics in Universities.

- International students are accepted to this undergraduate program according to the score of one of the international exams they take such as SAT, ACT and so on, or according to their high school diploma score.
- Exchange student admission is made according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by NEU and the partner university.
- Visiting students can enroll for the courses offered in this program upon the confirmation of the related academic unit. Additionally, they need to prove their English language level since the medium of instruction of the program is English.
