Foundation Programme in Business Management International Foundation Group

Overview

There is a strong emphasis on developing learning skills and approaches in preparation for higher education study in the UK in order that students who graduate from our programme are well equipped to face the challenge of studying at university level.

The course is taught over one academic year. In the first part, there is a focus on improving academic and language skills as well as a module which introduces students to basic statistical concepts which are so important for most undergraduate level related to business.

In the second  part of the course, the main focus is on the three depth modules of business studies, accounting, and economics.

Business Studies introduces students to the ways in which business organisations of all types function. It examines the global environment in which businesses operate and how they can respond to external factors. While the principal aim of the course is to prepare students for degree programmes in business and management related programmes, there is a strong practical element to the course allowing theories to be applied to practical situations. The coursework element of the assessment allows students to trace the different stages of starting a business and appreciating the internal and external challenges which businesses encounter.

An understanding of the basic concepts of financial and managerial accounting is valuable as a way of understanding how businesses work in general. The Accounting module gives students an introduction to basic accounting principles, and helps them to apply these principles in different situations.

The third depth module, Economics, combines a study of micro and macro content in exploring a range of economic issues drawn from national and international contexts. It promotes an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life.

Throughout the Foundation Programme in Business Management from International Foundation Group, students receive six hours per week of Academic English classes, helping them to prepare for the IELTS test.

The course is completed with a short project which consolidates your learning throughout the course and further prepares you for undergraduate studies. Students are given up to an additional six weeks to write up this project after the completion of the course.

IFG offers a range of general and more specialist English Language courses which can be taken separately or as part of a combined programme.

Whether you want to improve your IELTS grade or improve your communication skills for business purposes, our qualified and experienced teachers will help you to make the most of your time with us.  Teaching takes place in small groups which means that tutors can focus more easily on the specific needs of individual students. It is also possible to combine group lessons with one-to-one sessions.

Progressions to UK Universities

IFG programmes are recognised are accepted by a wide range of universities including East Anglia, Essex, Reading, Coventry and Kingston. We also have progression routes to International Year One programmes at Keele, Sussex, Strathclyde and several others. These courses are ideal for students who will benefit from additional language support and, on successful completion, offer direct entry into Year Two of degree programmes.

Our students also receive offers from a wide variety of UK universities and we are able to guarantee that all students who pass our courses and gain a sufficiently high language qualification will receive offers for degree courses from UK universities.
