Overview

Students of the English Language and Literature degree at Masaryk University have a deep knowledge of the literatures, cultures, and histories of the major English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Australia.

In addition to working in editing, copy writing, teaching English, translation and interpreting, journalism, and tourism, our graduates are well-suited for any profession that requires ability for independent and critical thinking.

Career opportunities

This degree programme contains four disciplines focusing on issues relating to the study of English philology:

language skills  |  linguistics  |  literary studies  |  cultural studies

Within each of these areas, students take a number of compulsory courses followed up with a a wide range of selective and elective courses. The compulsory courses provide general introductions and the necessary theoretical background to work in the specific discipline in question. Selective courses focus on specific topics within each of the disciplines. In addition, students have the opportunity to take a number of type elective courses of their own choice. All teaching, coursework, and exams in this degree programme are carried out in the English language.
