Overview

The part-time Teacher Education in French degree at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht is a four-year programme in an international setting that joins our successful international Language Education programmes for English and German, as well as Spanish. You will be taught in English and French by our experienced lecturers and get to enjoy Utrecht's vibrant student life. You will have frequent and intensive contact with France, spending time there from your 1st year onwards. Internships at Dutch schools are also a vital and highly educational part of the programme.

After your graduation

Upon graduation you will receive a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree, together with the International Diploma Supplement (IDS) in English. With France's role in the EU and international trade, we expect job prospects for French teachers to remain good, further influenced by teacher shortages and demand from the job market.

With your degree, you may work in Dutch secondary education, teaching the lower years, and at vocational and language schools. You can also become a freelancer and teach/tutor privately or write course books or exam materials.

General requirements

Dutch nationals need a relevant Dutch high school diploma, with French as an exam subject. If you have graduated Dutch vocational school (MBO) or are an international student, additional requirements may apply.
The Admission Office needs a copy of your diploma and transcript for the official diploma evaluation. You have to pass an English language test and an interview may be part of your admission procedure.

Non-native French speakers need to produce proof of CEFR level A2 for Speaking and Writing and B1 for Listening and Reading. All students need to be able to study in English, with a proven CEFR level of at least B1.
