Overview
Accounting (Part-time) programme at Birkbeck, University of London has been designed to allow you to focus predominantly on accounting modules. The number of compulsory management modules is significantly fewer than in the BA Accounting and Management, replaced instead by compulsory accounting modules. However, the study of management remains an important part of the course.
Accounting demands a range of transferable skills, including quantitative, analytical and decision-making skills, and perceptive abilities. You will develop a good understanding of accounting and the environment in which it operates, and the ability to apply a wide range of accounting skills and competencies, from preparing financial statements to interpreting complex material and relating theory to practice. What’s more, you will learn supervisory and management skills that will give you the confidence to take on more challenges in the workplace.
Careers
Graduates can pursue careers in accountancy, finance and management. This degree may also be useful in becoming a chartered accountant, actuary, tax adviser, retail banker, or chartered management accountant.
We offer a comprehensive Careers and Employability Service to help you advance your career, while our in-house, professional recruitment consultancy, Birkbeck Talent, works with London’s top employers to help you gain work experience that fits in with your evening studies.
