Overview
For this purpose, Industrial Design degree at TED University offers a liberal and innovative learning environment where students can develop their hands-on design skills in close connection with insights gained from a thorough engagement with research activities.
Key Facts
Design studios are at the core of the learning experience in our department. Students who gain a strong background in foundational design knowledge and skills in the first year of the programme continue completing two to three applied design projects each semester in the following years. Design project is a form of education during which students and instructors are in regular face to face interaction. These projects include the following fundamental steps:
Research: Depending on the nature of the project, research activities include topics such as the analysis of existing products and solutions, investigating relevant technologies, and identifying user needs and expectations.
Ideation: In regard to the insights from research, each student starts design ideation and development. This step may be individual or team work. The instructors track and support the students throughout their process of developing original and innovative designs. Students also learn to express their ideas with the visual design language, and be open to criticism while getting feedback.
Presentation and assessment: Each project is concluded with a presentation and assessment event known as a “jury”. Students orally present their designs by visualising them using a diverse set of communication tools, such as drawings, models, mock-ups, and usage scenarios. Each project is graded by the jury members which counts as an exam score. Juries are often held openly with an audience.
