Overview
In the MA Environmental Science and Geography (Hons) from University of Dundee you will focus on topical and relevant issues such as climate change, pollution of land and water and the management of natural resources.
In Geography you will study both social and physical sciences across three broad themes: creating just communities and places, shaping environmental futures, and geospatial and digital methods.
You will also have the opportunity to go on field trips, and to work with partner organisations to help them solve problems that they are currently facing.
Teaching
Most modules at Levels 1 and 2 have three lectures and one tutorial or workshop group meeting each week. At Levels 3 and 4 you will have fewer lectures and will learn from tutorials, seminars, local field and laboratory work, and workshops.
Fieldwork is an important part of our course and we make use of the fantastic landscapes within easy reach of the campus for local day trips. We also travel further afield into the Scottish Highlands, Spain, or Iceland for week-long residential field trips.
Careers
Many of the graduates build careers in areas that draw directly on the specialist geographical knowledge and skills they develop through their degree. Areas of employment include:
- land and water management
- flood risk management
- development and environmental consultancies
- housing and social welfare organisations
- local and central government
- tourism and conservation
- the geospatial industry, using GIS or satellite remote sensing
This course will also help you develop the wider graduate skills and attributes that many employers value: problem solving, IT and communication, analysis, and working with partners. Our students are also successful in securing places and funding for advanced postgraduate degrees.
Accreditation
This course has been accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).
