Overview

Over the Mathematics and Economics (Hons) programme from University of Dundee , you will learn about the key building blocks of both mathematics and economics. You will:

study both pure and applied mathematics
learn how to use maths to solve real-world problems
learn about the computer programming languages used in academia and industry
learn about macroeconomics (focused on national and global economies)
understand how mathematical models explain economic ideas
learn about microeconomic theory (focused on individual and business behaviours)

By the end of your degree, you will be able to use mathematical techniques to tackle different economic issues.

Teaching

In Levels 1 and 2 teaching is initially through a combination of lectures and tutorials. These continue in Levels 3 and 4, supplemented by workshops and computer laboratory sessions.

We also teach the use of professional mathematical software packages in order to allow you to explore mathematics far beyond the limits of traditional teaching. This also prepares you for the way in which mathematicians work across various industries.

Careers

Mathematics graduates are intelligent, logical problem solvers. With this training behind you, the career options become almost limitless.

Many of our graduates have moved into financial planning, investment, insurance, pensions and wider financial roles. We also see a number of graduates following the Chartered Accountancy route.

We've also seen graduates moving into journalism, politics, marketing and more general business roles.
