Overview
The Sports Therapy (Hons) program offered by Staffordshire University is suitable for you if you are interested in helping athletes recover from injury or if you want to design injury prevention programmes for sports teams.
Whether you have ambitions of working within the professional sports environment or running your own clinic, our accredited Sports Therapy degree gives you the skills, knowledge and experience needed to treat and rehabilitate professional and amateur athletes.
With sports therapy backgrounds in private practice, professional and semi-professional sport, our lecturers bring practical experience to their academic knowledge. Teaching combines formal lectures with practical laboratory and clinical workshops. As a Sports Therapy student, you’ll be guaranteed a placement, internship or volunteering opportunity to develop real-world skills. We also provide the experience of work under the supervision of The Society of Sports Therapists accredited staff, to deliver treatments in our sports therapy laboratory.
With the support of our experienced lecturers, you’ll build skills in injury assessment, exercise rehabilitation and soft techniques including massage and joint mobilisation skills. You’ll also develop a scientific understanding of the physiological response to exercise.
The Sport and Exercise Department works with local, regional and national employers alongside international university partners to provide students with placement and work experience opportunities both in the UK and abroad. In 2018/19 our students visited Nippon Sport Science University in Japan and we are currently planning this years’ trip to ILEPS in Paris.
