Overview
The English Literature and Creative Writing (Hons) programme offered by Staffordshire University helps you explore how writers have transformed the portrayal of the world, constantly remaking how we think about literature and even what literature is. You'll contextualise great works through critical and theoretical interpretations and discover your own approaches to writing by engaging with the finest prose, poetry, drama and screenwriting.
Our programme has 3 pathways: English Literature, English Literature and Creative Writing and Creative Writing.
During English Literature pathway you’ll pay close attention to the developments in literature, from Shakespeare to the experiments and innovation of 20th and 21st centuries.
On English Literature and Creative writing you will range across critical and creative practice. Flexible module choices and innovative critical-creative modules allow you to study across the pathways.
During the Creative Writing pathway you'll focus on key compositional skills in a range of genres and knowledge of the publishing industry.

- On our degrees, you will develop high-level critical and creative intelligence that will give you access to a wide range of professions, such as journalism, teaching, personnel management, social work or the media.
- If you are thinking of becoming a primary or English teacher, the Education department can support your application, whether you are applying to Staffordshire or elsewhere for your teacher training. Application, interview and presentation days will help you to prepare for the selection process
