History Education The University of the West Indies

Overview

The History Education program offered by The University of the West Indies seeks also to sharpen their awareness of the need to be in the forefront of development and change in education if they are to remain relevant in the classroom.

It will equip teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and disposition to enable them to engage in independent learning, continuous research, and the ability to adapt to and engage with changes and development in the field of education. It will also foster in teachers a willingness to seek out, respond to and participate in professional development opportunities.

Careers

Students who have successfully completed the Bachelor of Education programme are qualified to:

• Teach at all levels of the education system.

• Pursue graduate studies in Educational Psychology, Science Education, Mathematics Education, Curriculum Development, Educational Administration, Educational Measurement, Language Education, Literacy Studies, Mathematics Education, Modern Languages (Spanish Education), Primary Education, Social Studies/Geography Education, Leadership in Technical and Vocational Education and Training and Workforce Development and Teacher Education and Teacher Development and other areas in education.

• Work as Education Officers with the Ministry of Education

• Work as Training Specialists in Corporate Jamaica

• Work as School Administrators

• School Librarian
