The objective of the Energy and Power Engineering major at Shanghai Jiao Tong University is to train high-level engineers, capable of undertaking leading positions in the field of the energy field as well as environmental issues, and trained to rapid change of economic and regulatory context. 


The fundamental cycle lasts 3 academic years (6 semesters), starting with a half- year intensive French language Training period. Three majors are offered: Information Engineering (IE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), as well as Energy and Power Engineering (EPE).

The Energy domain is subject to new market issues such as energy market and emission market, grid control and its optimization, intensification of processes consuming energy, development of energy conversion technologies including renewable energies as well as environmentally-driven strategies, with more particularly the impact of climate change and its mitigation of limitation.

The engineers trained in the Energy and Power Engineering Major may be able to work in energy sector industries and services as well as in industries concerned with a clean and sober development. 

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Energy and Power Engineering major at Shanghai Jiao Tong University will be well-adapted to technical manager positions of large tertiary or industrial site (operation and maintenance), project or business engineer from design to validation (management and coordination of the execution of works, subcontracting steering) including the financing and marketing and engineer in the fields of fluid and environment. 

Graduates may also hold positions in the field of strategy and of environmental and responsible finance. Besides solid scientific and technical skills, they will effectively have economic, social and human knowledge.

    • Two letters of recommendation Two recommendation letters are required: one from the applicant's high school counselor and one from a teacher.
