Overview
Over four years, undergraduates of the Surveying programme from The University of Hong Kong will delve into the full spectrum of the real estate and construction business, including land and property development, construction management, real estate finance and investment, facility management, conservation, and urban renewal.
Eye-opening exchange opportunities
Under normal circumstances, around 70% of our students would participate in a semester long exchange programme in the Third Year of studies, visiting universities all around the world, exchanging REC knowledge and practices, and experiencing local culture. Since credits taken in the exchange programme can be transferred, students who participate in the overseas exchange can still graduate as scheduled. These provide experiential learning platforms for students to enhance their personal, academic and professional development.
Our programme also allows students in their Third Year to take a credit bearing course, Professional Practice, which requires students to gain professional experience during their internship in companies within the real estate and construction sector.
Professional Recognition
The degree is recognised by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS). The HKIS accreditation covers FIVE divisions, namely General Practice (GP), Quantity Surveying (QS), Building Surveying (BS), Planning and Development (PD), and Property and Facility Management (PFM). After graduation, you will have absolute freedom to join any of the abovementioned surveying streams.
Career Prospects
The programme sets you up for employment opportunities with developers, consultancy firms, property investment companies, property management companies, financial institutions, and building contractors. Alternatively, you can manage real estate assets for retail chains, hotel groups, and other companies outside the industry.
Join the public sector in the lands, buildings, rating and valuation, architectural services, housing, or urban renewal departments, or pursue a career as a building, general practice, quantity, planning and development, or property and facilities management surveyor.
In the past, more than 80% of our students received 2 job offers or more. Around half received 3 job offers or more. The public and private sector ratios of our graduates’ employment is around 50:50.
