Overview

In the first two years at the Accounting and Economics (Hons) programme at the Oxford Brookes University you will get a broad and solid grounding in core accounting and economics topics. In your final year, depending on your interests and career aspirations, you can then choose to:focus more on one discipline ormaintain a balance of both orinclude some modules in a new area such as finance.

In your second or final year you can experience working in a local charity by helping with basic accounting. This is part of our Accounting for Community: Engaging Students (ACES) project.

By the end of the course you will have developed a broad range of valuable skills and attributes such as:

commercial awareness
an international perspective
an analytical approach to problem solving
the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively.

Career prospects

This course will prepare you for a career in accounting or economics, but will also prepare you to join a general graduate training scheme, set up your own business or study at postgraduate level. You will have the opportunity to enhance your employability by taking part in our successful project which will provide you with an invaluable experience: Accounting for Community: Engaging Students (ACES), where, after free training, you can gain real-world experience by performing voluntary accounting roles at local charities and community groups.

General entry requirements

Acceptable passes in five subjects (exceptionally four subjects) at GCSE or GCE including:
- one 12-unit vocational A-level, or
- two A-levels or two 6-unit vocational A-levels, or
- one A-level or 6-unit vocational A-level plus two AS-levels, or
- two 3-unit vocational A-levels *(* where these are included they need to be in subjects other than those held at A-level).
A National Certificate or Diploma at a good standard.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 24 points) or the European Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 60%).
Five subjects in SCE with two at Higher level or one at Advanced Higher level.
Three subjects in Scottish Highers or two at Advanced Higher level.
