Overview

The Bachelor of Arts is a three-year degree which comprises 24 semester length units of study. Students typically undertake four units a semester in a full-time load.

The Bachelor of Arts is founded on a core suite of units which train students in such critical skills as reason, analysis, research and communication. These required units provide a foundation for ongoing studies in the liberal arts and help students to think big about things that matter.

Each Bachelor of Arts student normally completes an eight unit major as part of their degree and would normally undertake at least one unit from their major in each semester of their degree.Disciplines available as a first major within an Arts degree include: Archaeology; Behavioural Science; English Literature; Environmental Management; Film & Screen Production; History; Journalism; Philosophy; Photography; Politics & International Relations; Social Justice; Theatre Studies; Theology.

In addition to the four compulsory units of this degree and the eight unit major, students also complete twelve elective units.

Students often choose to use their elective units to complete a second major (eight units) or a minor (six units). Disciplines available as a second major or minor, in addition to those cited above include Business Studies & Mathematics.

In addition to its many opportunities to learn by experience, the School of Arts & Sciences offers its students the chance to learn on location with its Internship and Service Learning programs. Our Internship program suits students in all the Arts Majors. Normally undertaken in a student’s final semester, the Internship places each student on location in a real work environment within the profession they hope to enter. Students gain academic credit through the Internship.

It is possible to study Arts as part of a double degree. Combinations with Arts include:

  • Education/Arts (5 years)
  • Law/Arts (5 years)
  • Commerce/Arts (4 years)
  • Communications & Media/Arts (4 years)
