Overview
The Medicine and Surgery degree from Tor Vergata University of Rome is classified as a “Single Cycle Master’s Degree”. After graduating, our students will be qualified to practice as Medical Doctors in the European Union and will also be eligible to apply for the recognition of their studies to study abroad (i.e. through the USMLE for students wishing to practice in the U.S.). Please note that no previous University Degree is required to apply to the course.
The Medicine and surgery course programme in Italy lasts for 6 years where a sum of 360 credits (CFUs or ECTS) (for a total of 5500 hours) must be reached in order to graduate. The 360 credits are divided into about 36 exams and a number of compulsory rotations, elective activities and clinical practice, over the 6-years course. During the course are considered mandatory several internships, clinical activities in the form of tutorials, where practical activities are conducted under the supervision of a tutor. Students can also choose some extra courses (ADO) during the 6 years to obtain extra credits. No exams are held for the extra courses.

Graduates from Medical School work as doctors in various roles and different clinical, healthcare and biomedical professional environments. Furthermore, this Master Degree is required to enrol into Medical Specialty Schools.

General requirements
To apply for the Admissions Test, candidates must satisfy one of the following criteria:
- Candidates must be enrolled in the last year of a secondary school to obtain a Secondary School certificate.
- Candidates already possess a Secondary School certificate.
Entry requirements.
Bilateral agreements and special conventions exist with various countries. However, as a general rule, applicants must have studied for at least 12 years before applying. Those from countries where admission to university is possible after only 10 or 11 years of study must prove that they have attended the local university and passed all the required examinations for 1 or 2 years, so as to reach a total of 12 years of study. As an alternative to university studies candidates must prove they have a post-secondary title. In any case, candidates must have passed the University entrance examination in their country, if required by law. For details concerning the validity of qualifications obtained abroad, consult the ministerial regulations(Italian text), in particular the updated attachments to regulations 1 and 2 .

Yearly tuition fee amounts vary depending on the ISEEU index, calculated by the CAF Office, as follows:
- Students with an ISEEU lower than 13.000 euro are in the tuition “no-tax area” and will only be charged with a tuition of 156,00 euro per year; students applying for the Laziodisu scholarship benefits will only be charged with 16,00 euro[2].
- Students with an ISEEU ranging between 13.001 and 30.000 euro will be charged with a fee not higher than 1.190,00 euro.
- For students with an ISEEU higher than 30.000 euro, tuition fees rise linearly for ISEEUs lower than 90.000 euro; for ISEEUs greater than 90.000 euro, tuition fees remain constant at the maximum tuition level.
- Maximum tuition is 5.100 euro
