Biology is the study of any form of life, includes the subject areas of Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Ecology, Genetics and Molecular Biology.

Graduates of the Biology programme at the University of Winnipeg also pursue post-graduate education. The necessary academic preparation for post-graduate studies is only provided by the 4-Year and Honours degrees in Biology. The 3-Year BSc is not recognized as adequate preparation by most Graduate Studies Programs in Canada or internationally.

In addition, courses in Biology constitute the core of the Environmental Studies Forest Ecology Program, the Forest Policy and Management Program, and the Biochemistry Program.

A BSc in Biology can lead to employment in Conservation or other government departments, work as a technologist in a research or industrial laboratory, as well as a career in education. It also provides the preparation necessary for those entering several professional programs including Dentistry, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy and Optometry.

Required High School Course(s): Chemistry and Math

American High School Curriculum - Complete grade 12 with a minimum high school average of C+ or better on a minimum of 5 academic subjects. Please note: Home School Students must provide SAT scores sent directly from College Board.

British Patterned Education - General Certificate of Education, with two subjects at Advanced Level and three at Ordinary Level, or three subjects at Advanced Level and one at the Ordinary Level. Secondary School Grade: C (with no mark below a D)

English proficiency

Students will still need to meet the English Language Requirements of the university. The admissions office has expanded the requirements to include the Duolingo English Test as an approved form of meeting English proficiency for September 2020 and January 2021. The required score will be a minimum of 115 on the test.
