From this perspective, the Department of Journalism at Yeditepe University aims to educate and train future journalists, who are determined to be ethical in the profession, equipped with civic responsibility, defending the importance and necessity of freedom of press, and bilingual the least, in the national/international media avenue.

The department has a four years program. Students take courses designed on bases of theory and practice. Courses are from a variety of related fields such as, Political Communication, Sociology of News, Cultural Studies, Communication Ethics and Law in order to have critical thinking of the future. Students also find the opportunity to improve their skills in newsgathering and writing, newspaper publishing techniques and graphic design. Moreover, after the second year, students are able to specialise in their preferred interests through a variety of elective courses, such as Radio-TV Journalism or Online Publishing. When the students reach their final semester, journalism students prepare a 'graduation project', which enable them to actually publish their own newspaper, before they are to begin to work in the industry.
