Overview

From the beginning to the advanced level, the German Studies programme from University of Winnipeg offers up-to-date language instruction in an intimate learning environment.

As you develop your command of oral and written German, you will also develop the cultural understanding that is needed in the global community through the study of literary and other texts.

Students without any previous knowledge of German can begin here with GERM-1001(6). If you have some prior knowledge, you can meet with a departmental advisor to select the appropriate level of course.

To major in German, you must take one required course, GERM-2109(3) Advanced Intermediate German I, as well as a set number of courses at the 3000-level. If you do not wish to major, but simply to pursue German studies out of interest, you are also welcome in our courses. Contact a departmental advisor to determine the right level for you.

General requirements

American High School Curriculum - Complete grade 12 with a minimum high school average of C+ or better on a minimum of 5 academic subjects.

British Patterned Education - General Certificate of Education, with two subjects at Advanced Level and three at Ordinary Level, or three subjects at Advanced Level and one at the Ordinary Level. Secondary School Grade: C (with no mark below a D)

International Baccalaureate – An IB diploma with 3 HL courses and 3 SL courses. For transfer credit or advanced standing, no grade below 4 accepted.Minimum points required: 24Minimum total score of 24 points
