Programme Structure

  • As a first year English major approximately 20% of your first year classes will be related to the study of English with the balance of your program in other required humanities and social sciences courses such as History or Philosophy. 
  • This gives you a well-rounded experience coming into second year at which point you can focus on your particular area of interest, for example, writing, popular culture, and literary theory.

    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.
