Overview

The Finance and Investment Management (Hons) BA programme from Northumbria University core focus of our teaching is about preparing you for employment. Key modules include Careers in Accounting, Economics and Finance, and Professional Practice – all designed to build practical knowledge of working in the industry. 

And you won’t just be learning about investing in the classroom. You’ll also be putting your skills into practice in our on-site trading room, complete with industry-standard professional Bloomberg terminals that reflect live, real-life market developments.

 Between your second and final years, you can choose to deepen your understanding even further through a year-long work placement – gaining valuable hands on experience within financial organisations including the Royal Bank of Scotland or the Bank of England.Recent graduates are now working for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Bloomberg, Deloitte and Brewin Dolphin.

Career opportunities:

• A number of the course’s modules have been specifically developed to meet the academic criteria of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) – making it easier for you to take their exams after graduation. 
• Our Careers and Employment Service are there to help kick-start your next steps through workshops, one-to-one advice and networking opportunities. 
• Once you complete your studies, you’ll be ready to pursue career paths across the financial sector – from financial services and banking, to advisory work in finance and insurance both in the UK and around the world. Examples of recent graduate progression from this course include the graduate management trainee scheme at Lloyds Banking Group, an internship at KPMG and banking supervision at the Bank of Russia.  
• Should you wish to push your knowledge even further, the course also prepares you for postgraduate study – for example, on our MSc in International Finance and Investment.
