Overview
The Mechanical Engineering (Hons) programme at the Oxford Brookes University provides an education in mechanical engineering, producing graduates who have the necessary range of skills and depth of understanding to successfully pursue careers as Incorporated Engineers working in the industry.
You’ll develop your specialist knowledge in the core fields of engineering and learn how to apply basic principles to complex problems. You will study;

Our students are well prepared for the world of work, as the Mechanical Engineering degree is tailored to the current needs of industry. Our graduates work in all areas of mechanical engineering, such as design, aerospace, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and automotive and motorsport engineering, as well as in more general managerial and commercial roles. Our graduates have secured roles at companies such as Mercedes High Performance Engines, Rolls Royce, Pfizer, SS Analysis, Siemens Magnet Technology and VCT Design.
There are also postgraduate learning opportunities open through the department at MSc or PhD level.
Professional accreditation
The MEng has been fully accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) under the Engineering Council's guidelines (UK SPEC). It provides complete exemption from the Engineering Council exams parts one and two.
The IMechE has given the BEng course the maximum accreditation level available to a BEng course under the Engineering Council's guidelines (UK SPEC). Upon graduation you will have fully satisfied the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer status and have a well-defined path to Chartered Engineer status with the IMechE and the Engineering Council.

General requirements
- GCSE: English Language grade 4/C minimum normally required
- one 12-unit vocational A-level, or
- two A-levels or two 6-unit vocational A-levels, or
- one A-level or 6-unit vocational A-level plus two AS-levels, or
- two 3-unit vocational A-levels *(* where these are included they need to be in subjects other than those held at A-level).
- A National Certificate or Diploma at a good standard.
- The International Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 24 points) or the European Baccalaureate Diploma (minimum of 60%).
- Five subjects in SCE with two at Higher level or one at Advanced Higher level.
- Three subjects in Scottish Highers or two at Advanced Higher level.
- Any other qualifications considered by the Academic Board to be of equivalent standard.
