Overview

You will draw on expertise of two universities; the University of Kent for your mathematics and Canterbury Christ Church University for your mathematics education and teaching studies. You will benefit by studying at both universities, in close proximity of each other, in Canterbury and by having access to their extensive resources.

You will explore areas including:

mathematics and statistics
mathematics learner and teacher
mathematics curriculum studies
professional studies.

Mathematics with Secondary Education degree offered at Canterbury Christ Church University enables you to gain an honours degree and to qualify to teach secondary mathematics within three years.

Canterbury Christ Church University will recommend to the Department for Education and the National College for Teaching and Leadership that successful students be awarded Qualified Teacher Status.

Your first year is based at University of Kent where you study alongside other mathematics undergraduate students. Your second year will also be mainly based at the University of Kent with some modules at Canterbury Christ Church University. Your final year is based at Canterbury Christ Church University studying alongside other secondary mathematics student teachers.

What can I do next?

The vast majority of our students go into employment as qualified teachers following completing the course. There are a number of study options available to former students of this course at Canterbury Christ Church University during the Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) year and beyond, which lead to Masters degrees in Education.
