Overview
Students of Music Education from University of Lethbridge are provided with thorough training on their chosen instrument are strengthened by a carefully integrated stream of courses in music theory, history, literature and ear training, as well as participation in performing ensembles. As an Education major students develops a strong knowledge base in the subject area they intend to teach. Which Faculty to choose?
Both the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts (Music) combined with a Bachelor of Education programs are 5-year combined degrees with K-12 experience through the Faculty of Education. Choosing between the two programs is dependent on the amount of music courses you would like to have in your major.
Students interested in teaching elementary school are encouraged to pursue the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education degree. The flexibility of this stream will allow students to gain a diversified set of qualifications which will better meet the needs of multi-subject teaching common in elementary schools.
Students interested in teaching Jr. High or High School are encouraged to pursue the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education degree. This stream provides the strongest background in music, which will allow students to build expertise in the music field, enabling students to take the reins of secondary-level music education.
Performances
Participate in a dynamic season of Graduate and Junior recitals, visiting performers and workshops, internship opportunities, recording and producing contracts, professional certification, and competitions on a local, provincial, national and international level.
