Overview
Students from the Bachelor of Arts in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism at the University of Alberta can create a diversified degree program that aligns with their individual interests through selection of one of four options - completion of the general BARST program or completion of the BARST program with a minor in one of the following areas:
- Community Development
- Sport and Recreation Management
- Tourism and Natural Environments
Practicum:
As part of your degree you have the opportunity to complete a practicum in the final year of the program. The practicum allows you to integrate and enhance what you've learned in the classroom with work-place specific knowledge and skills in an authentic professional setting. Career opportunities for graduates of the Bachelor of Arts in Recreation, Sport and Tourism program include Recreation Therapist, Recreation Facility Operator, Event Coordinator, Director of Provincial Sport Association, Provincial or Municipal Recreation Coordinator and Sports Administrator.

General requirements
- Only one Language other than English is accepted for admission
- Prospective students should consult the Undergraduate Programs Office for the latest list of approved equivalent courses.
- Transfer applicants who have completed less than 24 transferable will be considered high school applicants. If a student in this circumstance has a GPA below 2.0 on their postsecondary coursework they would be admitted on probation. In order to clear this probation they must complete a minimum of 18 and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 over the next Fall/Winter Terms (September - April).
